Relational Management Counselling and Coaching works by having clients reflect on their experiences in relationships or the workplace. They are encouraged to explore and understand the relational triangles through which they balance the parts of the lives. Central to this process is becoming aware of one’s strengths and one’s vulnerabilities. It is this combination that shows up repeatedly in multiple parts of one’s life. Mastering triangles through emotional and cognitive management leaves one clearer about what is happening and how to live out of one’s best self.
Central to understanding one’s self is understanding one’s family of origin and the way it has supplied one with a wide range of expectations, vulnerabilities, and strengths. These may be unconsciously held so teasing them into awareness is an important part of the therapy. A family diagram is a critical tool and clients are encouraged to do multi-generational research into the patterns of family life which have led them to their current situation.
Since the self is a neuropsychological
system, Relational Management works through transformation of neural pathways by
engaging in problem-solving. This is not a quick process. It takes time, study,
practice, and evaluation. However, once learned there is no unlearning. New
neural pathways are then available for long-term use. Clients can think of it
as a professional training program for life itself.
The outcome is flourishing in one’s life.
Experience personal and relational well-being, reduced anxiety, ease of
decisions, and strength of purpose.
